“Grassroots Youth Development (GYD) is a Corporate Social Investment Programme emanating from three wind farms located in the Eastern Cape, namely the Grassridge 60 MW wind farm in Nelson Mandela Bay, the Waainek 24MW wind farm in the Makana Municipality and the Chaba 21 MW wind farm in the Great Kei Municipality. The GYD initiative is a Socio Economic Development (SED) and an Enterprise Development (ED) program aimed at creating socio-economic opportunities for youth that reside within 50 kilometres of each wind farm. The GYP program has been designed to focus specifically on the development and implementation of projects in the field of education, sport and arts & culture.”

 

The Grassroots Youth Development Program is two-fold:

  1. The GYD Socio Economic Development Programme provides monetary contributions to NPO’s and community based organisations and individuals who operate in:
  • Arts, sport and culture programmes, or
  • Capacity Building programmes
  • Corporate Governance programmes
  1. The GYD Enterprise Development Programme provides monetary contributions towards small enterprises in the fields of :
  • Capacity Building programmes
  • Corporate Governance programmes
  • Operational systems
  • Quality Management systems
  • Skills Development programmes
  • Company compliance
  • Financial compliance
